We’ll get to learn all about fish and macroinvertebrates that live here and what they tell us about water quality. Bring water shoes and a change of clothes, we will be getting wet!

Join our environmental education coordinator on a trip up to Cunningham Falls State Park! We will be going on a few short hikes in different areas of the park to check out all the sights and history that can be found. Trips will be led by recreation staff. Space for each trip is limited. Please note fees only include ticket/travel/staff unless otherwise noted. The meeting location for all trips is the Wm. Talley Recreation Center. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to departure. Join our environmental education coordinator on a walk around Baker Park to help with the Audubon Society’s annual Great Backyard Bird Count! We will be learning about our native bird species, while also participating in a citizen-science program collecting data on which of these birds call Baker Park home!

Join us as we create holiday ornaments using natural materials that you can find in your own backyard! We will be providing an assortment of items to use in our ornament-making including tree cookies and pinecones but encourage you to be resourceful and bring anything you may find out in nature to help create these awesome, sustainable decorations. Walk in anytime during this 3-hour window and be ready to get creative!

Come help our environmental education coordinator as we battle the spotted lantern fly invasion in our parks. We will be learning about these invasive pests while collecting (and squishing) them as we go. Volunteers will have the opportunity to earn service-learning hours. Please Register online.

Join the City of Frederick’s Environmental Outreach Program Coordinator on a nature exploration hike in the Frederick City Watershed. We’ll learn about vernal pools and amphibians, then search for the critters and their eggs!

Join us after school at Parkway Elementary to learn all about nature! We’ll explore environmental science through games, arts & crafts, and hands-on STEAM activities! We’ll spend plenty of time outside, exploring the natural resources in our backyards. Activities include nature walks and outdoor explorations, science experiments, gardening, and more!

Help clean up our city parks! This month we will be walking down Carrol Creek Linear Park to clean up the area before the winter holidays begin! Trash bags and pickup tools will be provided. Volunteers will have the opportunity to earn service-learning hours. Please register online.
